The Best Kind of Surprise
I participated in a holiday swap this year. It was a mystery swap, so I had no idea who was sending me a box full of goodies! They're my favorite style of swap. It's so exciting!
I received my box yesterday and opened it after a day of work and an evening of chores. I was absolutely thrilled with what the box was stuffed with! I'll leave you all with photos and go much on my chocolate, fondle my new batts, and bask in the aroma of the handmade soap...

Episode 21: Overtime, Sleep, and Very Little Knitting
Well, that whole sticking to a schedule thing definitely didn't happen this last week! I didn't even come close. Sorry about that. I worked just a few extra hours at work... 65 hours in 7 days. I did do a little bit of knitting, but I definitely didn't get as much done as I would have liked! Not a huge surprise there, though. I pretty much worked, slept, and made sure that all the fur babies were fed!
WIPs (that I actually worked on)
November MOCK "Winterfell" in BohoKnitterChic Spins Merino Nylon Sock ("Ravellenic 2014") and Cascade Heritage Sock (in some bright green color)
Moonkoosa Boots by Tiny Owl Knits in vintage Lamb's Pride Bulky (color M-52 Spruce)
Shreds by me in handspun Romney and IF Princess Bride
Stash
I'm lucky enough to have family who have knit in the past. One of those family members gifted me a box of vintage Lamb's Pride Bulky in the Spruce colorway. I am now the proud owner of 7 skeins of the stuff! It's definitely enough for a few pairs of slippers and a set of Moonkoosa boots!
I have no FOs to share this time around! Maybe next week... Maybe... If I'm lucky!
Though I did dig out a couple mostly finished projects that need very little work before they're done. Like my George and a cowl that just needs to be seamed up. Maybe I'll have those finished lol

WIP Wednesday
I'm going to modify Wordless Wednesday a little bit and post pictures of what projects I'm working on. I do have some very long term projects (like cleaning and combing and spinning and knitting whole fleeces) but if it's something that I touched during the week, I call it fair game to post a picture or two of! Some of those long term projects you might not see every week. This modification of Wednesday's posts serves two purposes, 1. it brings the focus of the blog back to fiber crafts and 2. keeps me motivated to work on some of those long term projects!
And there will, of course, be the occasional unrelated to fiber picture... like this one of my very confused pepper plants! It has actually frozen a couple times. It's November. And the pepper plants are still trying to put off flowers and new fruit!

Romney Fleece Update
Yes, I know, I know... this is a little late in the posting. I said I'd get this posted a couple weeks ago! Unfortunately life got the best of me. I'm working on that, though - the household has only one sick person now!
Anyways, you aren't here to read my excuses. You want to know about the lovely Romney fleece that I have been processing from a skirted raw fleece! As you know, I finished combing this lovely fleece earlier this summer and began spinning. The first yarn I wanted to create from this fiber was a light fingering/heavy lace weight yarn to match the Inglenook Fibers Princess Bride support spindle spun yarn. I finished 3 bobbins of singles and decided that I don't need thousands upon thousands of yards of this yarn... so I started plying!
I don't have a lazy kate, so I make sure to have a medium sized USPS Priority box when I need to get any plying done. I just poke a couple straight knitting needles through the sides of the box & slip my bobbins onto the knitting needles. There isn't any tension held on the bobbins, so I'll have to upgrade my makeshift lazy kate eventually, but it works in a pinch!
I filled two bobbins with 2-ply. I still have 1 full bobbin and 2 pretty-close-to-empty bobbins.
The two skeins of yarn that I finished match the support spindle spun yarn almost perfectly! The natural grey color works really well with the Inglenook Fibers yarn. The Princess Bride yarn was spun using a long draw method so it's a little airier than the short forward draw of the Romney, which means the grist of the two yarns doesn't match, but the WPI match up pretty closely.
I ended up with approximately 1000 yards of the 2 ply Romney. It's 9.5 ounces of gloriously smooth and beautiful yarn that will pair marvelously with the Inglenook Fibers Princess Bride yarn!

Episode 20: C.O.A.T.T. (Cast On All The Things)
Oh my goodness, guys! I've caught the castonitis bug. Seriously. I think this is more things that I've had cast on at one time in ages...
WIPs
Latvian Scarf KAL - using a bunch of leftovers from socks and sweaters and shawls, plus some minis from swaps.
Winterfell MOCK - using BohoKnitterChic Spins in Ravellenic Games 2014 and Cascade Heritage in bright green.
Wear The Wild Things Are Hat - using Rowan Big Wool
FOs
Sorta a FO?? Beanie from Rowan Big Wool that turned out a tad too small. Will gift to neighbor kid - I'll add a pompom and some embroidery to make it more fun.
Everyone at home has been sick for the last couple weeks, so unfortunately I've been rather busy making sure that the house doesn't burn down and that all the animals are fed and cleaned and cuddled. Hopefully things slow down a little bit in the coming weeks. Christmas knitting needs to get started! I've got big plans, but I don't know how much I'll be able to share... don't want too many secrets getting out!
